The first rule of Internet Marketing is that you are never done. It will take significant effort to start getting a flow of traffic to your site. You do not need to "work" the internet as hard once you begin to get a steady flow of traffic but eventually even if you stop working it even organic web traffic will dry up.
The reason for this is that the search engines change how they operate, what they look for. The web spiders are always crawling the net looking for new and updated information. It is critical that your site react to these changes.
So how do we become successful at Internet Marketing? Here are some basic rules to follow:
1) CONTENT, CONTENT, CONTENT
UNDERSTAND THAT EVERYTHING STARTS WITH CONTENT.
The best internet marketing tool is your content. If you provide original, high quality content people will naturally talk about you, see you as a resource and visit your site. Even refer the site to their friends.
Other sites will want to link to you, without you paying for the link. As a result, you will be listed high in the search engines.
Your content is your best weapon on the Web. This is especially true if you do not have endless resources to brand yourself and engage in large scale advertising.
2) Target Market (Fish where the fish are)
Know who your target market is, figure out where they are and then what will motivate them to take action (WHAT IS IN IT FOR THEM). Although it is all a numbers game, you can increase your chances by reaching out to a targeted prospect or customer who will have an interest in your opportunity. Far too many internet marketers spend hours working the business to people who are unlikely to ever be interested. Don't waste your time and energy !
3) Be Persistent
Internet Marketing is NOT a one-shot deal...it is a process. It is something that you will do on an ongoing basis using a variety of techniques. Competition on the web is very tough with millions of sites competing for visitors and sales. It will take some effort to get the traffic and sales that you need. But since it is a numbers game, it is MUCH easier to meet 100 or 1000 people on the internet than in your local community.
4) Use Different Techniques
One of the basic rules of Internet Marketing is NEVER EVER rely on a single technique to get search engine optimization. You may be #1 using that technique today, but there are many things that can occur. Such as, constant changes in search engine algorithms or you may get banned from a forum or commit an infraction when posting with a classified ad service, to name a few. These events could result in losing 80% or more of your traffic,
5) Track and Measure your Results
You can only optimize your internet activities if you now what is working.
You will want to focus on the activities that are bringing traffic to your site.
Analyze your web logs or web statistics on a regular basis to get a clear idea of the most effective internet marketing strategies. Your findings can also help you look at how you can improve the results of each campaign that you do.
This is especially true when trying to determine which ad copy is working best.
6) LEARN.... LEARN..... LEARN
Continue to learn what is the best way to Internet Market. The Internet is always evolving. What may have worked 3 years ago may not work today. The Internet changes rapidly...if you want to be successful, you need to continue to grow and learn.
