Office Stress
Spending long hours at work in your office isn't always that nice, taking into account the office stress resulting from it. The problems that seem to come on a daily basis, the numerous phone calls, the irritated boss or the mountains of paper on the desk are among the factors that increase the discomfort level for the employee.
To reduce office stress, try to get your work organized by using a notebook or post-its and write down every task and its deadline. Doing this will help you avoid the pressure of multiple deadlines due at the same date. The stress level can be significantly reduced that way.
Your work space is an important thing to take care of. Keep your desk clean of unnecessary papers and organize them by specific folders. Also, add color and familiarity to your office by bringing personal things from home, like family photos or a favorite decoration. Fresh and familiar surroundings can considerably improve your mood.
Take care of your back. The chair and the position you're sitting at office are very important to your health. Backaches and migraines are the last thing you need. Ask your boss to invest in comfortable desk chairs that permit the employees to maintain optimal and comfortable positions while working.
In matter of breaks, keep in mind that shorter is better for relieving office stress. Don't let your mind totally disconnect from your work, so do not engage in long phone conversations or shopping expeditions while on break. Get back and resume work in after a maximum of ten minutes. Do the same about your vacation time, by trying to get time off work more often but for shorter periods.
Try to get a good night's sleep in order to give best performance during the day. Getting adequate sleep and being well-rested helps your body to regenerate. Avoid strong tea or coffee in the evening to assure a deeper sleep.
When office stress is overwhelming, you may need to step back a bit. Taking a deep breath from time to time while counting to ten may be the perfect way to reduce the level of stress and carry on with your work. If possible, get up and walk around, preferably outside for some fresh air.
